Beginner Tips for Building Your First Mostarle Metal Model (Start with the Dragonfly!)

Building your first Mostarle metal model is a fun and rewarding experience—but it’s even better when you have the right tips from the start. Whether you're just beginning your model-making journey or gifting a kit to a first-timer, this guide will help make your experience smoother and more enjoyable.

1. Start with a Beginner-Friendly Kit — We Recommend the Dragonfly

If you're new to Mostarle or metal assembly kits in general, we always suggest starting with one of our beginner-level models. The Dragonfly is a great choice. It's designed to be approachable for first-timers while still giving you a stunning finished piece.

The Dragonfly model has fewer complex joints, clear instructions, and just the right amount of challenge to help you learn the basics without feeling overwhelmed.

Pro Tip: You can find the difficulty level of each kit on the product page under “Skill Level.”

2. Use an Electric Screwdriver (But With Care)

Each Mostarle kit includes a free set of manual tools—but if you want to make your assembly process smoother, using an electric screwdriver can help a lot. It speeds up the process and reduces hand fatigue.

However, be careful not to overtighten! Some small parts can be damaged if too much force is applied. For steps that require extra precision, it’s still best to use the manual screwdriver.

Quick Reminder: Always check the instruction booklet for recommended tool use during each step.

3. Strengthen Loose Joints After Assembly

Finished your model but notice some loose joints? That’s common—especially for parts that are meant to move or support weight.

To fix this, gently tighten or reinforce the joints after assembly. A little extra tension can go a long way in helping your model stand firm and look more polished.

Tip: Many builders also use a small amount of clear adhesive (like Loctite or UV glue) to lock certain joints in place for display purposes.

4. Lost or Broken a Part? We’ve Got You Covered

We know accidents can happen—maybe a screw went missing, or a small metal piece got bent. Don’t worry. Just reach out to our support team, and we’ll be happy to send you a replacement part.

Contact Us: Email our customer service with your order number and a description of the missing or damaged piece. We’ll respond quickly to help you get back on track.

Final Thoughts

At Mostarle, we want your model-building experience to be creative, satisfying, and stress-free. Starting with a beginner-friendly kit like the Dragonfly, using the right tools, reinforcing your model, and knowing help is always available—these are the keys to success.

Happy building!
